SPIRIANT Wins Red Dot Award 2015: Oh what a night!
When I was told that we had won a prestigious Red Dot award and we would be going to Essen to receive the prize, I was really excited. The Red Dot is the prize for high design quality. The international jury only awards this sought-after seal of quality to projects that significantly set themselves apart from comparable projects thanks to their excellent design. We are so proud to be part of it!
The drive up to Essen got me thinking – what makes this award so important is that it’s not just what this award is about, but what it means for us as a team. It is about why design is so important. Sure, it’s much easier to sell a product that is packaged and designed in a very appealing way, but if you really get to watch a designer at work, you’ll see it is never just about the sale.
It is an expression of themselves, their creativity and interpretation of a project that merges seamlessly together with the brand and wishes of a customer to produce something truly unique. And to be recognized for that, among so many other amazing product designs, is what makes this award truly special.
Last night we were presented with our award for the Lufthansa Premium Economy Class tableware series at the Red Dot Museum – a really cool location by the way. It used to be the former boiler house of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen for many years. Closed down in 1986, it is one of the most important industrial monuments and was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2001. Here, surrounded by the very best in design and some of the most creative minds, one thing was very clear – we want to be back again next year!
