Lufthansa and SPIRIANT Win German Design Award for Tableware Concept

Neu-Isenburg, Germany, March 13, 2019 – Lufthansa and leading airline equipment supplier, SPIRIANT, have won a prestigious German Design Award for their economy tableware concept. The winning collaboration brings functionality and aesthetics together, whilst improving the ergonomic handling for the crew.

The premier award was given to the tray concept in celebration of the marriage of innovation and beauty, notably how it perfectly captured the essence of the Lufthansa brand and enhanced the travel experience.

The tray concept consists of rounded edges and shapes, with smooth mat beveled surfaces that refract the light to create a tactile allure. The large reusable mug adds an attractive piece to the concept, whilst also being easy to hold. It’s been designed with a lightweight material, contributing to a reduced fuel consumption and ensuring both the crew and caterer have a straightforward experience with handling.

Birgit Frey, Senior Product Manager Inflight Services, at Lufthansa, says: “The tableware concept perfectly represents the brand image of the airline, enables easy handling for crew and caterer and enhances the travel experience for passengers. The combination of functionality and innovative design was the goal and we’re delighted that our pride in the concept is being celebrated with an award.”
